Durango Wine Experience set for April 23-25, 2015
DURANGO, Colo. – Reminding all that there’s “No such thing as too much wine,” the NINTH annual Durango Wine Experience is set for April 23-25, 2015, in Historic Downtown Durango, Colo. A special VIP welcome reception is also planned for the evening of April 23, with unique Sunday opportunities to be announced.
“It has grown into one of the most respected tasting events in the country,” said Karen Barger, owner of Seasons Rotisserie & Grill and co-founder of the Wine Experience. “We’ve got the perfect venue in Downtown Durango, plus the natural beauty of area. The event has seen steady growth over the years, and we’ve been able to donate significantly to local non-profit organizations.”
Proceeds from the 2015 Wine Experience will benefit the United Way of Southwest Colorado.
The event’s signature, multi-location public tasting event, the “Walk-About,” is set for Friday, April 24 from 4:00– 7:00 p.m. In the past downtown Durango venues have included Azul Gallery, Sorrel Sky Gallery, No Place Like Home, Durango Coffee Company, Rochester Hotel Courtyard, Steamworks Brewing Company’s Patio, and Blu Boutique to name a few. Each location will feature hundreds of wines and light appetizers.
“You not only get a taste of wine, but a true taste of Downtown Durango,” said Leah Deane, Event Coordinator, “All the venues are within a several block area, so it’s an easy stroll. Downtown is bustling and spirits are running high.” You can start from either the South, after checking in at the Strater Hotel Lobby 699 Main Avenue, or from the North, where you can also check in at Alpine Bank Lobby 1099 Main Avenue.
On Saturday, April 25, The Grand Tasting will take place under the festival tent in Downtown, located at First National Bank, 259 West 9th Avenue from 4:00- 7:00 pm. Dozens of vendors, which include wineries, distillers and craft brewers, are scheduled to participate and this signature event includes the wildly popular Restaurant Showcase, featuring some of Durango’s most talented and celebrated Chefs and Restaurants.
Wine Experience attendees may select from among several educational seminars scheduled throughout the event, all within walking distance in Historic Downtown Durango and attended by Master Sommeliers and Certified Wine Educators. Winemaker dinners are also scheduled at various Downtown restaurants on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
“There’s a lot going on,” said Barger. “We encourage those interested to visit our web site and review the 2015 event schedule. Information on lodging and additional activities is also available there.”
A limited number of tickets are available for all Thursday, Friday and Saturday tasting events and seminars. Those purchasing Platinum Passes are invited to the VIP welcome event Thursday evening, April 23. For additional information or to purchase tickets visit www.durangowine.com.
